The BOM table refers to the bill of materials. Before PCBA processing, customers are required to provide the latest BOM table, which includes all electronic components and other materials required for the production of this product. PCBA processing manufacturers need to purchase materials for customers based on this BOM table for production. At the same time, the finance department will also calculate production costs based on the BOM table, and the manufacturing department will consider the BOM table as an important production basis. So a standardized BOM table is very important.
A standardized BOM table should include material codes, material names, material specifications, quantities, units, etc., which can clearly and intuitively show the specifications and quantities of each material.
Many domestic electronic engineers provide BOMs that lack precise definitions of material brands and manufacturer codes, or have missing suffixes in the manufacturer codes, which may result in PCBA processing plants using conventional series materials by default. Many times, series ICs with different suffixes may represent subtle differences in application scope, packaging methods, rated voltage and current, packaging, and other aspects. This non-standard BOM may lead to some functional failures or failures in specific application environments in the manufactured PCBA board, making it extremely difficult to investigate. In view of this, it is highly recommended that electronic engineers standardize the brand, manufacturer code, product name description, and packaging of each material, which are extremely important information.
Because the development and production of electronic products are iterative and constantly upgraded and optimized, the BOM table will also be updated along with it. Even the update of a single material will have an immeasurable impact on the product. So after each update, the old BOM table must be marked as an expired document and sealed for discontinuation. In order to ensure the orderly management of version and model, the release and online use of the product BOM list must be issued by the R&D department, and at least signed and confirmed by R&D engineers and R&D department supervisors at each level to ensure the correctness of the BOM list. Then it is necessary to promptly contact the PCBA processing manufacturer and provide the new BOM table to avoid situations where the BOM table is updated but the product is still purchased and produced according to the old BOM.
